The Back Story: Stripe is Killing My $41,210.60 Business….

This is what my usual morning looked like (soon to be YOUR reality):

BUT in the last 5 days things went down, everything broke and I had no notifications of sales.

When I started investigating I found out that Stripe has almost killed a cash cow that took me about 8 months of hard work.

The creation took just 1 month but I’ve been carefully tweaking it for the last 7 months just to have Stripe screw me over.

Here’s how much this product has made in the last 60 days before the disaster struck – $41,210 hands-free!

• The average order value is: $59.81
• The Cost Per Acquisition is: $18.27
• This means for every $1 I invest I get $3.27 back within a 24 hour period.
• This was Multiplying money EVERYDAY.

But the last few days have been a nightmare because out of nowhere almost 40-45 people who clicked the BUY-NOW button after entering their credit card details saw this error and they kept getting this error even when they re-tried.

If I cannot accept payments, I’m not in business!

What I thought was a temporary glitch has been giving me sleepless nights and long conversations with support teams…

It’s been 5 days and counting – meaning I have already lost about $3,000+

This was a beautiful hands-free cash rich business while it lasted because….

• Not the stock market,
• Not the forex market,
• Not the crypto markets,

Can multiply my money as predictably as this.

and then, out of nowhere, I saw that my payments were being rejected left right and centre because of some Stripe API connection outage…..

It literally pulled the emergency brake on my business.

I was desperate so I started digging deeper to understand what is going on…

And I accidentally stumbled upon the rejected payments and failed payments report.

I know I’m stupid and I should’ve checked it earlier but when the money is flowing in without touching a thing….

You don’t really bother too much with these things.

That’s how much money Stripe has rejected and given me no reason for it over the last 1 year.

And this isn’t all.

Stripe doesn’t even register half the payments as failed, they are not recorded anywhere so that actual amount LOST… I’m assuming is close to $80,000 over the last year.

This was my classic “Straw that broke the camel’s back moment”.

I have had enough. Everyday battles that are bleeding money just because I don’t have a solid payment structure in place.

I’ve been leaving so much money on the table that it’s just shameful.

Especially because I have been in the space for a long time. I should’ve known better.

I started my journey back in 2008 and from the period 2008 to 2014 which is a DECADE back – I got 23,987 clients and made 7 figures by the age of 24.

I’ve been at it forever!

And still I made a boo-boo!

So, What’s Up With Stripe? Does it Hate me?

NO! This is Not entirely Stripe’s Fault…. I’m a part of the problem.

My company that I setup back in 2009 was setup in India…. The laws here make it hard to accept USD payments…. and it’s getting even harder because of compliance issues.

I have been selling stuff only to tier 1 countries for almost 15 years now. The same struggles continue…

Foreign payments sometimes get blocked and the Export laws in 🇮🇳 India force us to collect data that most people are NOT otherwise required to collect.

That means my checkout pages look like a college form.

Let me show you…. This is how my competitions’ checkout form looks:

Simple 2 Steps:

• Collect The Name and Email.
• Get the payment information.

…and DONE!

Mine looks like this 🤮 : 

• Name
• Email
• Address
• State
• Pin Code and
• Then the payment information.

This greatly reduces my checkout page conversion rates.

The more steps there in any sales process, the more resistance there is and lower is the conversion rate.

Most people in the US, UK, Australia, Ireland and other first world regions don’t have this “Checkout-Form Disadvantage” like me.

It’s just my business location and the cross-border transaction laws that cause this.

Also, UNFORTUNATELY since my business IS NOT located in the US,UK, AUS, CA, Singapore or any other EU nation – Stripe will continue blocking payments randomly. 

Here’s proof: 198 failed payments and 744 succeed. Almost 33% are FAILING.

The 3 (+ 1 Recent) Crippling Villains in My Life That Cost Me 6 Figures Each Year:

1. Stripe API Glitch (recent),
2. The MASSIVE Checkout Form with multiple fields,
3. Random Rejection because of my geo-location.
4. 18% GST Tax that I pay on any ad spend that I incur.

And I’m competing with people who don’t have these issues…. on a global scale.

But I still manage to get 3.30X Return on my spends while a lot of others struggle.

I tried…… tried again! Thought long and hard about this; then decided against it.

Here’s my Estonian E-Residency card, I thought of setting up a company in Estonia and create a Stripe and PayPal account there.

But then COVID hit and I saw people die.

I was in Spain at that time with my wife and we were almost on the last few flights out of Spain….

I came back to India and I saw people all over the world grieving. Friends….Relatives! It was CRAZYYY….

People losing loved ones.

It was very sad and that is when… I decided to stay back and take care of parents and family.
